The Lisvane & Llanishen Reservoir scheme saw the construction of a 110 acre visitor centre, designed with water-activity areas, health and wellness facilities. Biodiversity is at the core of the two-storey scheme, with views across the reservoirs and eco-friendly improvements. BECT were appointed to lead the scheme with works including large solar photovoltaic (PV) roof installations, a sustainable drainage system, as well as a rain garden to filter rainwater.
The Building Safety Act (BSA) requires developers and construction companies to maintain the golden thread of information, throughout their project’s lifecycle. This includes the necessity to show that construction processes, methods and materials were followed in compliance with regulations to ensure the safety of its occupants and workers both during the build and in tenancy after reaching PC. If not documented appropriately, the financial risks to the companies involved can be extremely high. While crucial, it can be time consuming to capture and document evidence daily so it can be easily accessed and stored if required in future.
BECT required a more time-efficient method of collecting and storing the large amount of data for evidence, ideally without having to take photos and log this every day. The project team asked Lobster Pictures to supply two Lobster Pot time lapse cameras to record the information automatically every 5 minutes. They required Visual Twin services to record additional drone orthophoto scans of the site for extra visibility while presenting all of the data all in one place. This means that if required, they can retrieve any dates/times many years later as this is stored safely on Lobster Pictures servers.
“The technology is helping to increase visibility and accountability on the Lisvane site, reducing disputes, saving site visits, and giving us accurate, measurable, golden-thread-ready views of any part of the site, throughout the build. All the visual assets are easy to access in one place, and the service has paid for itself many times over.”
